# Xero and QuickBooks in ChatGPT and Claude: what each app can do

Yes, you can connect Xero to ChatGPT and Claude: Xero and Intuit QuickBooks each publish their own app in ChatGPT and in Claude. Cursor publishes a Xero plugin and a QuickBooks Online plugin, which Grok Bot also lists. On Oct 28, 2026, we count 27 listings that name Xero and 43 that name QuickBooks, and Intuit's app is #2 in ChatGPT's Small Business list.

## Does Xero work in ChatGPT and Claude?

Xero works in ChatGPT and Claude through its own app. Xero Limited publishes [Xero](https://theopenapps.com/chatgpt/apps/xero) on ChatGPT, where it sits at #39 in Finance, and [Xero](https://theopenapps.com/claude/connectors/xero) on Claude, at #66 in Most popular. QuickBooks is the same story with a bigger reach. [Intuit QuickBooks](https://theopenapps.com/chatgpt/apps/intuit-quickbooks) is #2 in ChatGPT's Small Business list, and [Intuit QuickBooks](https://theopenapps.com/claude/connectors/intuit-quickbooks) is #39 in Claude's Most popular.

Cursor publishes a Xero plugin and a QuickBooks Online plugin, which Grok Bot also lists. Neither comes from Xero or Intuit. The table below shows each store's app for the two brands, what it does, and whether we can see it make changes.

None of the brands' own apps shows its tools to us without sign-in. Intuit's ChatGPT listing says it can make changes, but we can't see its tools to check. Xero says its Claude connector is read-only ([Xero's Claude page](https://www.xero.com/us/ai-in-accounting/claude/)). ChatGPT carries more of the apps around both brands: 14 of the 27 Xero listings and 20 of the 43 QuickBooks listings. In [OpenApps Rank](https://theopenapps.com/blog/how-openapps-rank-works), Intuit QuickBooks is #19 on ChatGPT and #25 on Claude. Xero is #157 on ChatGPT and #143 on Claude.

## What can you do once your assistant reaches your books?

An assistant connected to Xero or QuickBooks mostly answers questions about your books. A smaller group of apps also writes to them. The two brands travel together: 13 of the 19 apps we tag Xero also name QuickBooks, so most third-party apps below work with both. Grouped by job:

Pilot.com is the one publisher with a connector for each brand on both ChatGPT and Claude. Its Claude listings say they can make changes, and its ChatGPT listings say they read and update. We can't see the tools of either version, so we can't confirm it. QBO Connector by Meridian is #19 in ChatGPT's Finance list, the highest third-party QuickBooks app we list there.

None of the top accounting apps we list is FreshBooks' own. VODER is the app that reaches it, and some of VODER's yearly reports are not available for FreshBooks organisations, by VODER's own tool notes.

## How do you connect Xero to ChatGPT or Claude?

Open the brand's app in the store, connect it and sign in with your Xero or Intuit login. Xero's own page gives these steps for [Xero on Claude](https://theopenapps.com/claude/connectors/xero) ([Xero's Claude page](https://www.xero.com/us/ai-in-accounting/claude/)):

1. In Claude, open the connectors directory and add Xero.
2. Sign in with your Xero login.
3. Choose the Xero organisation you want to use.
4. Ask about your profit, cash, invoices and customers.

You need an active Xero subscription and a Claude account, free or paid. Xero's ChatGPT launch post gives no setup steps for [Xero on ChatGPT](https://theopenapps.com/chatgpt/apps/xero) ([Xero's blog](https://blog.xero.com/product-updates/claude-for-small-business-chatgpt-ai-integrations-launch/)). Open the app from its ChatGPT listing and connect it.

Intuit gives these steps for [Intuit QuickBooks on ChatGPT](https://theopenapps.com/chatgpt/apps/intuit-quickbooks) ([Intuit's ChatGPT help](https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/mobile-and-apps/connect-quickbooks-online-chatgpt/L0RDe9RPd_US_en_US)):

1. In ChatGPT, search for Intuit QuickBooks and choose Connect Intuit QuickBooks.
2. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account. ChatGPT opens again once you're in.
3. Choose Start chat in the Intuit QuickBooks app.

On Claude, open Connectors in the sidebar, find QuickBooks, choose Connect and sign in with your Intuit account ([Intuit's Claude help](https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/accounting-bookkeeping/use-quickbooks-connector-claude/L3YBlo6Ht_US_en_US)). Intuit says both QuickBooks apps are for US customers for now. Cursor and Grok Bot list both plugins under Cursor's name; browse the [Cursor charts](https://theopenapps.com/charts/cursor) for them.

## Method and limits

Our counts come from brand tags that match listing text. A listing that only mentions Xero or QuickBooks in passing gets the tag too. We kept apps out of the tables when their listing did not say what they do with either brand, such as CRM Connector and Hive.

Most servers here hide their tools until you sign in. Of the 27 Xero listings, 12 have an MCP server we know of, and only 1 of those shows its tools without sign-in. For QuickBooks it is 2 of 20. So "tools hidden" says nothing about what an app can do once you connect it. An [auth-gated server](https://theopenapps.com/glossary/auth-gated-server) may well write to your books.

Store ranks move daily, and a rank says how visible a listing is, not how well it works with your books. Counts by store add up listings, so an app on ChatGPT and Claude counts once in each. The wider accounting tag holds 248 apps, most of them for other ledgers, and we left those out here.
