Three kinds of listing
Claude's directory holds three kinds of listing. Connectors are remote MCP servers you connect to Claude. Desktop extensions are local MCP servers packaged for Claude Desktop. Plugins are bundles for Claude Code that can carry skills, commands, agents, hooks or MCP servers. Plugins are the largest group by far.
What gets ranked
Most listings have no rank at all. Most popular, Claude's main list, ranks 1,157 of the 4,192 listings (28%). Connectors also have their own lists: by popularity (911), trending (755) and recommended (921, reshuffled every day, so it isn't a ranking). Trending across all kinds is a strip of 6. The New list (494) is ordered by launch date. Beyond those, 85 tag lists rank listings within a department, an object, an industry, a life area or a subject.
Connectors first, always
Most popular is not one ranking. It is connectors and desktop extensions first, then plugins, then a few unscored listings, joined end to end. In our listing sample the first 200 rows are all connectors, with Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, Canva and Microsoft 365 at the top.
The tag lists show the same structure. We store up to the first 25 rows of each, and in those rows 29 tag lists contain both connectors and plugins; 29 of the 29 place every connector above every plugin, with no interleaving. Each row below is one list in order: blue for a connector, purple for a plugin.
- Code16 connectors, then 9 plugins
- AI models & agents14 connectors, then 11 plugins
- Music & podcasts10 connectors, then 1 plugin
- Papers & articles24 connectors, then 1 plugin
- APIs6 connectors, then 19 plugins
- Pull requests1 connector, then 14 plugins
So a plugin's position in a mixed list says how it compares with other plugins, offset by however many connectors sit above it. A plugin at #20 behind 16 connectors is the 4th plugin.
How to read a Claude rank
- Compare listings of the same kind. OpenApps shows a rank within kind next to the position the store shows.
- Prefer the lists built for one kind (Connectors by popularity, Connectors trending) when you compare connectors.
- Don't read Recommended connectors as a ranking; its order is reshuffled every day.
- A rank is an order, not a count of users. We don't show or estimate how many people use a listing.
Where the movement is
In the 24 hours to October 13, 2026, 125 Claude listings in the top 100 of a ranked list changed places by cohort rank, 52 of them by three or more. By list: Most popular 25, Connectors trending 82 and Connectors by popularity 23. The biggest climber was Taplio, up 35 places in Connectors trending. The top of Most popular didn't move: its first 35 rows held their places.
Method and limits
- Claude has no per-country lists, so every Claude rank here is global.
- OpenApps keeps the top 200 rows of Most popular, the first 100 of the connector lists and of New, and up to the first 25 rows of each tag list, so plugin positions in Most popular are outside it, and a tag list can hold plugins below the rows we store.
- Kind comes from the store. Desktop extensions rank with connectors in Most popular; none appears in the tag lists we hold.
