Launch lag: how long ChatGPT apps take to appear

A ChatGPT app appears a median 32.5 days after its id is created (middle half 13.7 to 56.2 days). That is across the 19 apps with a creation date that went live from Oct 7 to Oct 13, in our listing sample, on October 13, 2026.

What we measure

A ChatGPT app has two dates. The created date is when its id was made; the id encodes it, and for Apps SDK apps the store's launched_at field holds it too. The went live date is the day the app first appeared in the directory in any of the 48 countries we track. The gap between them covers building, submitting, review and publishing; we can't tell those steps apart from outside.

The numbers

From Oct 7 to Oct 13, 19 apps in our listing sample went live with a creation date, outside the Oct 8–9 batch. Their median gap is 32.5 days. The middle half took between 13.7 and 56.2 days, 6 went live within two weeks, and 5 took more than 60 days. The fastest took 3.7 days and the slowest 191.1.

That is a small sample over one week, so treat the median as a range, not a constant. It will tighten as weeks of go-lives accumulate.

The Launch lag page uses a larger measurement from our Oct 13 analysis of the full store instead: 615 apps that went live between Oct 6 and Oct 13, half of them within 16.2 days. The 19 apps in our listing sample run slower than that, so read this sample as a check on that page's model, not a replacement for it.

The spread is wide. Avoma appeared 3.7 days after its id was created; Match with Care took 191 days. A long gap can mean an app was built and set aside, or went through more than one review; the data can't say which.

Why recent weeks look empty

Charts of ChatGPT launches count apps by the week their id was created. Because apps go live weeks later, the most recent weeks always hold only the fast ones. The week of Oct 5 shows 25 ids so far, against a settled median of 244. That is a measurement effect, not a slowdown.

What it means for builders

  • Plan a launch around weeks, not days. Announcing on the day you create an app means announcing something nobody can find yet.
  • Your app's go-live date, not its created date, is when people can find it. That is the date OpenApps uses for "went live".
  • When you compare launch counts across weeks, ignore the last three or four until they settle.

Method and limits

  • Sample: ChatGPT apps in our listing sample that went live from Oct 7 to Oct 13, 2026, with a creation date.
  • The 410 batch listings of Oct 8–9 in our listing sample (1,117 store-wide in our Oct 13 analysis) are excluded, since their appearance date is a migration date. 1 go-live without a creation date is excluded too.
  • Creation dates for Apps SDK apps come from the store; for other families we decode the id. Go-live dates are accurate to within a few hours.
