How to track AI app store rankings

Track an app's rank in the AI app stores by its place in one list, in one country, day after day, and read every jump against the rest of that list. On Oct 28, 2026, Canva went from #36 to #10 in ChatGPT's Popular list in the United States on a day ChatGPT re-sorted the whole list: 25 of its top 50 apps were new to it.

What a store rank is

A rank is the place a store gives an app in one of its lists on one day: ChatGPT's Popular list or one of its categories, Claude's Most popular or its connector lists, the Cursor Marketplace's Popular list. It is the store's own order. None of these stores publishes installs or revenue beside it, so a rank says where an app stands against its neighbours, not how many people use it.

Three things decide what a number means. The list: an app can be #1 in a category and #36 in Popular on the same day. The country: ChatGPT's lists differ by country, and OpenApps charts them in 48. The kind: Claude's Most popular mixes connectors, plugins and desktop extensions, so a connector's place counts among connectors.

Three ways to track it

  • The store's own pages. Open the list in the store and find your app. It is the source, but it shows today only: no history, one country at a time, and nothing about the apps around you.
  • OpenApps on the web. Search for your app: its page shows its place in every chart of every store it is listed in, with each list's history and the countries that list it. Movers ranks the day's moves by cohort rank, and an app page's Changes tab shows when you or a competitor edited the listing.
  • Inside the assistant. Add OpenApps to ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor and ask "Where does my app rank in each store this week?". It answers from the same data.

Whichever you use, keep one list and one country as your number, and look at the others when that one moves.

Worked example: Canva

Canva is listed in all six stores OpenApps charts. In ChatGPT it held #1 in Creativity in the United States every day from Oct 19 to Nov 2, 2026, and #5 in Small Business (from Oct 27, #4 in the other countries we chart). In Popular it slid from #29 to #36, then stood at #10 from Oct 28.

Read alone, #36 to #10 looks like a breakout. Read against the list, it isn't one. On Oct 28 ChatGPT reordered Popular: 25 of the top 50 apps that day were new to the list, and the other 25 all changed place. Not one app in the top 50 held its position. Canva's rise was part of a re-sort, so the useful question is where it settled (#10, and it stayed there) rather than how far it jumped.

Claude tells a calmer story. Canva's connector was #7 among connectors in Most popular every day from Oct 26 to Nov 2, #4 in Connectors by popularity and #1 in Design. Its place in Connectors trending, a list that moves daily, ranged from #76 to #88 over the same days. A steady place in a list that rarely moves says more than a swing in one that always does.

Five habits for honest numbers

  1. Fix your list and country. Track one number, say Popular in the United States, and keep it the same week to week.
  2. Look at the whole list on a day you jump. If most of the list moved, the store re-sorted it; see how to read rank changes.
  3. Use cohort rank for day-to-day moves. It sets aside apps that arrived or left, so an arrival above you doesn't count as your fall.
  4. On Claude, rank within kind. A connector's place means something among connectors only.
  5. Watch listings beside ranks. A rename, a new description or a new country often comes before a move; an app page's Changes tab dates each one.
